MASS ANNOUNCEMENTS TRANSCRIPT FROM JUNE 8 MASS
Last weekend, we collected $6,890.94. This includes the amounts that we received from pre-authorized giving and Donate Now. Now, last week, I made a push for pre-authorized giving. One thing that I neglected to mention, one of the questions that comes up with regards to pre-authorized giving or one of the reasons why people choose not to do it is because they say, well, Father, when the collection basket gets passed along, it looks like I'm not giving anything in the collection. Well, the response to that is you're going to have to get a box of envelopes anyways because in the box of envelopes, there are envelopes for special collections that are not covered by pre-authorized giving. And so what many people do with these envelopes then is that they take the empty envelope, write PAG, pre-authorized giving, on the envelope. And so when the basket comes along for collection, they put the empty envelope into the basket. And so it looks to your neighbor, your nosy little neighbor, that you are giving a little something even though the actual amount that you are giving is actually coming out of your own bank account rather than in the envelope. And as I mentioned last week, this also helps, you know, that you're not scrounging every week, at the end of every week, for some money to put into that envelope. And that also, if you are away or sick or something, you know that money is going to the church even though you weren't able to attend Mass that weekend.
The next OASIS Lunch Workshop is Tuesday, June the 17th, after the 12-10 Mass. The York Regional Police is partnering with the community to provide an educational session to seniors in York Region. Topics to be discussed. Frauds and scams. Crime prevention. Elder abuse. And personal safety. Educate yourself on important information and meet other seniors that live in your community. A reservation is a must so that they know how many people to prepare lunch for. So if you are interested, the names and the numbers of the people you can contact to reserve a space are on the bulletin board and in the parish bulletin.
Coming up, the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the Feast of the Sacred Heart, is coming up at the end of the month. And in preparation for this, we are going to have a novena to the Sacred Heart at the parish. This is similar to the Divine Mercy novena that we have at the early part of Easter. So there will be prayers each day for the nine days of the novena. So the novena will begin on June the 18th. And for weekdays, the prayers will be at 6 p.m. before the 7 o'clock mass. There will be the novena prayers and then there will be the praying of the rosary before mass. That's for the weekdays. For the Saturdays, the novena prayers and the rosary will be prayed after the 9 a.m. mass. If there happens to be a funeral that day, those prayers will be done downstairs in one of the halls. For the Sunday, because it's the same weekend as First Communions and there will be kids wanting to have pictures taken and things like that, the novena prayers will be said following the 10 o'clock mass and those prayers will be downstairs in one of the halls. More details will come. For now, there are posters at the exits of the parish where you can get some more details. Also, the details are not in this week's bulletin yet. It didn't come in until too late. We already published the bulletin but there will be more details in next week's bulletin.
And finally, after mass, for those of you who were not able to attend the potluck dinner last night but would like an opportunity to say goodbye to me, even though I'm still here for another two weeks after this but because of the schedule, this is the only really available weekend to do it. So there will be refreshments downstairs in the hall. There's brownies and cake and little goodies as well as drinks and coffee and tea. So if you'd like to come down and see me after mass, I'll be downstairs after mass in the large hall. So please come join me.
